Biid meets ifi executive board
Last weekend, London was the host city for the most recent Executive Board meeting of the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI). The IFI is the sole international federating body for Interior Architecture/Design organisations, and the BIID is a member along with many other leading professional interior design organisations world wide. The IFI acts as a global forum for the exchange and development of knowledge and experience, in worldwide education, research and practice. Sometimes referred to as the "United Nations" of the Interior Architecture/Design field, IFI tries to connect the international community in order to further the impact, influence and application of the design of interiors, promote global social responsibility, and raise the status of the profession worldwide.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the IFI and the Executive Board
is working hard to promote the recognition and value of interior design
around the world. Recent successes have included numerous cities around
the world officially declaring the last Saturday each May ‘World Interiors Day', many cities and countries (including New
York City) adopting the historic IFI Interiors Declaration and the
launch of an international student design competition, WING.
Board members travelled from Australia, Turkey, Korea, China, Denmark,
Nigeria and the USA to attend the meeting and BIID International
Director Simon Hamilton and Katherine Elworthy were delighted to be
invited to meet the Executive Board and join them on a fantastic visit to the newly opened View from the Shard.
